Before you hit the slopes we thought we would give a general break down of the difference between the three types of snowboards. So before you learn about how to snowboard knowing which type of board is right for you will help.
Freestyle Snowboards
With a focus on jumps, tricks, and half pipe riding freestyle snowboard is all about going big. Generally a freestyle snowboard is easier to for beginners with its wider, shorter, lighter and has a softer flex that allows for more response for the rider.
Freestyle snowboards are intended for doing tricks and are generally not as good for carving or riding fast.
Freecarve Snowboard
Also know as a Carving, Alpine, or Race Board a freecarve snowboard is a long narrow and stiff board designed for speed. Similar to freeride boards they are only meant to ride in one direction.
They are meant for riding and carving and usually a more difficult board to learn on.
Freeride Snowboard
A freeride snowboard combines aspects of both freestyle and carving snowboards for an all mountain experience. It offers more stability for holding tighter turns when carving. These are all around great beginner snowboards and helps bridge the gaps between the other two styles of boards.
It is also predominantly made to ride in one direction as the tail end of a freeride snowboard is generally shorter and narrower than the tip but can still be ridden fakie.

Having and starting out with the right snowboard for you, will make all the difference as you learn how to snowboard and/or want to take your skill to the next level. So depending on the style of ride that you want, the board can make a large difference. |
