There are some basic things to look for and consider when purchasing a wakeboard including length, width, weight, fin setup as well as the bottom of the wakeboard design. Unique to wakeboarding we will explain how the bend from the tip to tail, called the rocker might be important in deciding the style of ride you want. There are two types of rockers:

The 3 stage rocker has 2 distinct bends in the curve of the board. The setup of the board allows you to gain a lot more pop off of the wake but pushes more water which creates a slower ride. Although a 3 stage rocker may initially provide a less stable ride they can be ideal for a beginner wakeboard as they will force the rider to edge correctly.

With a continuous rocker you get a faster more consistent ride because the curve of the board flows in a constant bend. There are also different degrees of bend to consider when buying a continuous rocker wakeboard. The less amount of bend in the rocker will allow for a faster ride but reduce the amount of pop.

Depending on the style of ride you want both style of boards offer a unique feel. If you are looking for a smoother more wake to wake transition with higher jumps a 3 stage rocker style wakeboard is for you. On the other hand if you want to be more aggressive, turn fast and have a nice wake to push off of a continuous rocker will give you the speed to hit the wake fast and land out in the flats.
